Being the most talked about location is The Hamptons beach and community. This is the beach location for many wealthy celebrities and other affluent people that typically live on the Upper Eastside of NYC. During the summer, The Hamptons is full of celebrity filled events and parties making it the place to be and be seen. Coopers Beach in Southampton and Main Beach in East Hampton are regularly listed on Dr. Beach’s world top 10 list every year. Famous residents that live there permanently are Billy Joel, Christie Brinkley and Martha Stewart to name a few. It is also a wonderful spot for artists and has many high end galleries in the community. Besides the beautiful beaches, The Hamptons have good restaurants, shopping, art and nightlife for people visiting.
There are 2 good beaches that are part of the State park system on Long Island. They are Jones Beach State Park and Robert Moses State Park. Jones Beach was created by master planner, Robert Moses in 1929 and is the largest public beach on Long Island. It is also the closest one to Manhattan making it an ideal destination for those who want to get out of the city for the day. It also has a 15,000 seat outdoor theatre where summer concerts play too. Robert Moses State park is not as big and less crowded. It doesn’t have the theatre or the boardwalk that Jones has and also 3 miles less of beach. The well known Fire Island lighthouse is at this park as well.
Another nice beach on Long Island is called Fire Island and is a 32 mile long island with more than 20 beach communities and the gorgeous Fire island national seashore. There are homes, rental cottages and hotels as well as shopping, restaurants and live music to make it a favorite vacation destination. This is regularly listed as a favorite of all of the beach communities in Long Island for its beaches, charm and overall feel.
The final beach in Long island is Montauk Point and is actually thought to be part of The Hamptons but has a totally different feel. It is a extremely quiet area with rocky beaches that make it a favorite fishing location and one of the best on the East Coast. The Montauk Point Lighthouse is over 200 years old and was built in 1797 by George Washington and is a hsitorical sight to see.
