You might wonder as to how Skagen mens watches came to life. It happened way back in the year 1986. Henrik Jorst and Charlotte Kjolbye were introduced at a corporate party and wound up falling in love. You could say that it was love at first sight. Shortly after, Carlsberg, Henrik’s then employers transferred him to New York to manage their North American marketing operation. Before long, Charlotte hooked up with Henrik in New York. Both got drawn back to each other during the subsequent year.
One of Henrik’s Danish pals sent him samples of his company gift watches. He wanted to know if there was a possible market for them in the United States. Going off of the samples, they added their own tweaks, and made the watches a fashion piece. Much to their surprise, corporate buyers adored the designs, and recommended that the couple sell these watches under a brand name as opposed to just selling them to companies stamped with the company’s logo.
Both Jorst and Kjolbye managed to come up with eight hundred watches in 4 unique designs under the handle Skagen Denmark. The couple founded Skagen as a result of an unfathomable passion for design. They also have a strong belief that they knew what people wanted. The initial batch of Skagen watches were sold out. They also had another cargo shipped right after. As for the next year, Henrik and Charlotte designed thirty new models. There was a buyer who took a chance and placed the Skagen watches on the back of the special Father’s Day edition.
Later on in the year 1995, Bloomingdales agreed to sell the Skagen watch for men on a trial basis. Every single watch was sold by the end of the day. Skagen Designs was featured in an article in Inc. magazine where it was among the top 250 fastest growing private corporation in the United States. In the period of five years, turnover had gone up by 1200 percent. Eighty stores in Denmark were now selling the watches after a new office opened to create ECU distribution.
Skagen Denmark Company had grown to nearly one hundred workers and the brand started selling their products in the United Kingdom in the year 1995. The selling of the products also followed in Germany and the Netherlands during the year 2000. The company has managed to move mountains since then and is now a gigantic company with 160 staff and distribution in more than sixty global markets. The brand now offers more than 250 watch designs sold in more than 5000 stores worldwide.
